Re: PLaystation Classic
So I placed my order for two units last night on Best Buy, used my eBates account to get a WHOPPING 3% cash back!!! Whooooooooooooo
I watched a bunch of the tutorials last night on YouTube about some of the things you can do with the PS Classic.
This morning I managed to order from Best Buy a USB 2.0 hub (as the mod now allows support for 2 players) and three 32GB Flash Drives.
I'll use them to pre-load a ton of the PS games, swapping them out as needed.
The hub was $9.99 as were the flash drives, $9.99 each. All in, still cheaper than the unit was upon release.
I'm happy with that.

Re: PLaystation Classic
Some guy on youtube put every playstation game (1506?) on a 1 TB drive and was able to get them all recognized. The selection screen showed a solid ring of games. Main issue for that to work was he had to reduce the pixel size of coverart for the games or else only about 400 would show up. Can't seem to find the video now though. Ridiculous, but it shows what's possible with the hack.

Re: PLaystation Classic
I was able to find a "file" with I think the complete North American PS ROM set.
I'm unsure if it's complete, but it was extensive.
I'll need to look online to find out some of the best/highest rated games and compile a list of titles I'd like on mine.
I had saw one post where the user (name escapes me, but it was a Canadian YouTuber') had issues with a 64 GB flash drive.
As such I just ordered 3 x 32GB flashdrives that I'm OK switching between.
I've got quite a few projects to do now, "fix" the PlayStation classic, and I'm even taking on an old original Wii I picked up for the kids.
I'd like to get a s**t ton of GameCube and Wii games put onto this 1.5 TB drive I picked up black Friday. Should be fun!!!!

Re: PLaystation Classic
WOW! That is crazy.
I don't know if I'll be taking on the hack of the PS2 classic today (New Years Day), but it is on the short list of projects.
I still have not had the time to compile my list of "must have" games.
None the less the possibilities are cool........I look forward to getting to this.

Re: PLaystation Classic
What's the point of hacking this to play more games with poor emulation quality? If you want bad emulation, just get a Raspi.
New Astro City, CMVS, JAMMA Saturn & Genesis, MiSTer, PVMs: 2030, 1954Q, 2x 8044Q, 9L2, 9L3, + Extron Crosspoint

Re: PLaystation Classic
Like many of us (I'm sure) I have multiple items, all of which do the same thing.
Different shells, but deliver the same end result. Be it a modified XBOX, or modified Wii, an OUYA, Retron 5, etc, etc.
All will allow me the opportunity to emulate games and fulfill that retro experience.
That aside tho I'm a sucker for these officially released goodies, from the NES classic, SNES classic, and now the Playstation classic.
When the price dropped happened and put it on par with the NES classic I thought it was a no brainer. Plus it seems the mod has evolved a little.
I'm quite happy with the purchase, haven't got around to tweaking it yet tho, but I will shortly.

Re: PLaystation Classic
I just looked, but it says $79.99 still. Perhaps it was a 1 day sale and I missed it.
That would have been sweet, would have saved me $60!
I also checked Walmart.ca , but same deal, $79.99 .

Re: PLaystation Classic
I don't wanna talk about things you can't talk to on the forum.
But I've seen some cool videos of people displaying this PSClassic hack.
So apparently when you take out the USB drive the unit is stock.
No real modification, hack, or alteration required.
Not to mention some of these USB images (for lack of a better term) are easily found online for DL.
I picked up a few 64GB flash drives from Staples today and I've got some of these USB drive clones currently coming down the pipe.
Hopefully by the weekend I'll have them all and be able to copy them over to the drives and test em out.

Re: PLaystation Classic
Patience is a virtue.
I picked up 2 PS Classics when the dropped to $88...........should have waited ! LOL
That aside when I got the PS Classic I also picked up a few 64GB flash drives for $15, and a USB hub for $10.
The Flash Drive images are readily available online, and from what I understand no modification happens to the unit.
Simply put it runs a script off the USB when plugged in, and you get all your games.
I'm yet to try it tho, but I have all the images stored on my PC...perhaps this weekend.
That aside these things dropped to $50, so I doubled up on it.
Best Buy and EB had them for $50, Walmart was still $80 when I looked.

Re: PLaystation Classic
$50 I think is worth it for nostalgia, and just to add more junk to the collection.
I finally unboxed it yesterday and copied one of my 32GB PSClassic builds over to a flash drive.
However I'm yet to try it.........had to watch Sopranos!
