need some video help

Postby Katarak » Thu Aug 26, 2004 11:22 am

so i set up my new board, everything seems to work good except for the video.

it might be the monitor, but i
didn't use to have that problem when varth was in there.

please see the below picture of the cross
hatch.

http://www.killerkorp.com/stuff/crosshatch.jpg

as you can see on the top the image is slightly crooked, It was worse before but i
managed to get it to be not too bad my moving around the Horisontal Hold.

The only thing that i can think of is that the monitor takes +H.Sync,
+V.Sync, -H.Sync, -V.Sync

The only one i'm using right now is the -V.Sync; just because i didn't know what to use and the previous board used that
one, but it also used - H.Sync

To tell the truth, I have no clue what one does over the other.
If anyone has any pointers i would be very
appreciative.
for reference i'm using a 4slot Neo Geo, and the monitor is a Wells Gardner - 19K7901

Curling at the top of the screen is a standard symptom of your capacitors drying up. I assume this is a used monitor. Check the
capacitors on the monitor PCB's to see if the "plastic" covering is starting to recede from the capacitor. Overtime the covering shrinks, exposing more and
more of the cap. This is why they have "cap kits". I would imagine capacitors need to be changed anywhere from 10-20 years.

If you are really a
newbie with monitors ... go to :

http://slot-tech-ftp.serveftp.com:8080/

and read everything possible on them. Especially the parts about
discharging the monitors before working on them. You've probably heard it before but monitors are high voltage and you could harm or kill yourself if you
don't know what you are doing. I used to be wary of them myself until I figured out how things worked.

And while I don't recommend buying from
Randy Fromm, because of some past actions, his monitor repair video is quite good if you ever plan to roll up your sleeves and fix them.

Ok i tried up another board I have (Varth: Operation
Thunderstorm)
and the monitor is fine, So it leads me to believe that the problem stems from the board.

Any help at all on this (even if it is what
rom i need to change) would be helpful.

Did you examine the capicitors? Is the plastic casings receeding from the top? Still sounds like it
could be something simple like a capacitor.

It could be the caps in the monitor neogeo does use it to full potentiall.
If they are starting to go bad it is really messed up.

I know my new neogeo has that problem
I have to replace the caps.
At first thought it was the power supply but was still the same.
I will
have to order a cap kit from therealbobroberts.

read my first post...
It's a Wells Garder, 19K7901

so it's possible that the monitor needs a cap kit even though when
i change a board and everything works?

I'm probably going to get another monitor anyway... I want a 25'' monitor.
just hope it's not my
board.

No it not the board i am sure my cab was fine at Rich place.
But i guess during the move it did
not like it a few grounds where un hooked.
But was not that.
I have a few symptomes the monitor tends to bounce a bit where it chakes from left to
right or up and downthen the collors are a bit off i tried to ajust them but still cant get them right and curves at the end.
Have the nice screen dot in
the midle of the screen when you turn it off.
So it is either my caps or my degause cable but that you have to unplug replug all the time to have it
degause properly.
But anyways i tried it in my working cab and it is fine.
So i am sure it is my screen but.
Ask Weirdguy to test it for you or
somebody in mo so you know atleast.
