Yeah - I noticed this too - it's because it uses a modern Web layout and I'm getting to it through an iFrame using a URL redirect (there are mobile-friendly themes I can apply that would solve that problem if it's important to people).

I never had a problem with cgcc.ca on any mobile device, but only because it's pretty primitive by today's Web standards....

Justin - you should definitely try the Tapatalk app - I've never used it before yesterday, and it's incredibly amazing for using forums.....I'm totally addicted to it now (it only works with new-style phpBB forums for good reasons ;-) )

Yeah - the photo has to be a certain size/dimensions. If you have trouble with uploading a photo, just email me the photo and I'll modify it and attach it for you (jason.eckert@gmail.com)

It's stupid simple.......someone just has to "do it"!!!!

But who might that someone be? I don't want to sound stupid but I know I will -- who do we call/write/PM to execute the plan? I gather that Brock and the site owner (Ken?) are all on-board?

Could we just mirror CGCC and then perform the upgrade? That way, we preserve all the existing content and user profiles? Sorry, I'm also not completely web savvy so I'm probably simplifying things.

I think it's Ken's call - he owns CGCC.ca, which basically "is" CGCC
To migrate old posts over, you simply need to back up the database on the old host and restore it on the new host (essentially).

You also then need to point the CGCC.CA domain to the new host and installation. Like I've mentioned before, people need to be FORCED to switch and it has to be painless (as in have all the user accounts already set up; it has to look like an upgrade).

I've encountered this before. Everyone complains about XYZ, someone finally sets up a new forum, 20 people register on day one, only 4 come back and post. New site dies regardless of how better the tech is. (VHS vs Beta!)

Hopefully some sort of migration will actually happen before:
a) Brock's old company finds out that CGCC is hosted on their server and takes the site down,
or
b) December.....when Dreamhost (the hosting provider for CGCC) completes the next phase of their upgrade, which will most likely render ancient versions of phpBB forum software useless.

It's a sucky situation.
But I'm starting to think that nobody really cares....if they cared, they would have migrated long ago.
I have a feeling that one day, CGCC.ca will take you to an error page....and then everyone will be like:

I do. But he's a bit of a prick.

Hey Guys,

So actually we have started the migration. There's a bit of a hiccup right now in that the Dreamhost account I found doesn't actually have any files in it .... just logs. Once I've found the files though I will be able to get back into the database and go ...

Here's the plan so that hopefully there's no more worries:

Set up the CGCC on my own hosting (already done, just need data)
Migrate the data through the versions of phpBB to 3.1.6 (We are at 2.0.16)
Lock this site into "Maintenance Mode"
Point the domain over to the new hosting

Everyone has been very helpful in getting this done and I'm sorry I haven't been on to say what's going on. This migration will also allow me to fix the home page issue and add a lot of the other things.

I'll start updating this thread as things happen.

But trust me, don't bother bugging Ken, with his porn career skyrocketing, he's been super busy.

Pretty sure PHPBB's Admin Panel has the ability to backup the database...

True, it may be worth just skipping the files ... If we really needed the little icons and such I could just save them off the site manually.

All images etc won't be kept when you migrate anyway, PHPBB2 themes are not compatible with 3 and require conversion.

Migration would be easiest by doing the following...

1: Backup database here
2: Install PHPBB2 on new host
3: Restore database on that installation
4: Install PHPBB3(in a different directory), and run the converter

DONE

DNS propogation will easily take longer than the 30 minutes or so that should take...I've done it before.

AWESOME - thanks Ken!
......I was starting to think CGCC was just going to silently die.

Ken is right here - I did a bit of researching phpBB upgrades a few months ago and this is what I also found online.....
