Just a thought - if you are using a 4:3 monitor it probably doesn't have an HDMI in. Depending on what you have on your monitor you may need an HDMI-to-VGA (with a 1/8" audio out preferred) or a HDMI to DVI adaptor

Monitor is indeed VGA, so I will need the HDMI to VGA.
Not sure what you mean about the audio tho.

HDMI carries the video and audio signals, typically used for TV's where there is an audio amp in the TV. You need an HDMI to VGA adapter that splits the audio signal out so you can run it into an amp then speakers (or powered pc speakers). Some computer monitors have small audio amps and speakers built in but will still need input into an 1/8th inch mini stereo jack on the case. StarTech.com makes a decent HDMI to VGA adapter with audio out.

Be cautious of using a power supply less than 2amp. I've read lots online that less than 2amp sometimes causes glitches with the Pi. You'll notice all the Canakits come with 2.5 amp for that reason

Thanks guys.
Locally I found 2 pi 2's for sale with one SD card.
Seller wants $80.

Outside of that think I'll order the $55 kits, I'm ok to wait.
But I'll look into the power supply info.
The last thing I want is to have issues.

Appreciate all the info, tips, tricks, advice..........thanks all!

Or just get a 4amp power supply (the most common one - can be used for any project board - Panda boards, etc.).
The Pi will only draw what it needs (up to 4amp of course ;-) ).

Good luck!

I love the Pi project scene... I have a RetroPie running my Missile Command cabaret, a RetroPie NES Console project, a RetroPie GameBoy project after that, plus my 2 Kodi OpenElec Pi's... and Pi just for funsies on my desk as well. :)

Enjoy!

The more I looked into the PI it really seemed like a no brainer.
The fact that I can just download the image and move the ROMS saves a ton of time.
I want to use a KADE for the controls, I'm hoping I can easily configure the controls.

I purchased the LED buttons prior for the PunchOut bartop, I forget if they are 12v or 5v.
So I may have to find a power supply option.

I went online today and took a look, the $51 USD Pi-kit does have a 2.5A adapter.
I ordered some USB extension cables for the controls, and a few miscellaneous odds and ends I'd need.
Doing my homework on the KADE right now. Since they are 1 player I think it's a good option.
I don't want to use an iPac.

I also want to do my homework today and setting up the Pi controls.

EDIT - I'll %100 be going with a Pi for this project. If my LED buttons are 12v anyone have an idea as to what I should do
to power them ?

EDIT - On eBay they have power adapters for the LED light strips. They make a 12v version with an adapter that would allow me to wire the LED buttons to it. Think I would go that route for about $5 US.

The ultimate goal here (I think) would be to use a Raspberry Pi and keep an original Jamma harness (see photo), hence the project I posted about. From what I understand the Pi CAN output 15kHz natively.

That will kill the multicade PCB market for sure ;-)

When I first read/saw that I hadn't made the connection. Then I realized what you were saying. If you had an existing JAMMA cabinet you could just toss a Pi in...........wow, that would be cool !

I'm stoked for this project either way.
I'm doing my homework and trying to figure out everything I'd like to do.
I'll need to get a 12v powersupply for LED buttons and some cold cathode tubes I had bought prior (and forgot about).
I also had purchased some green LED fans for the project. All be it the Pi would not really need much cooling.
I had intended for the bartop to give a cool lighting effect when up against the walls (due to the cold cathode tubes and LED fans).

I'm now unsure if I should go KADE, iPac, or Zero Delay Encoder for the controls. I fully intend on using the emulators on the cabinet.
At least the earlier ones, up til N64.

Here's a link to a guys site who's done exactly that, albeit in a different way, in the article he mentions the pi can do 15kHz on the composite output (older pi's) and that it'd difficult to split the RGB signals off of the composite. He goes, HDMI to VGA adapter, VGA to CGA/ RGB scaler then into the Arcade CRT. On Aliexpress, I've seen VGA to CGA scalers for about $20 and change so not too bad.

http://thearcademan.net/connecting-a-ra ... e-monitor/

If you can point me to an article on 15kHz out the HDMI, I'd be very interested in the read, it'd save the scaler and you could use the vga - rgb converter/ video amp in a jpac. The site above also has some other interesting reads. :)

Those guys used a convert module/device. The board above eliminates that.
